Greetings from New York State! I love your idea of building a site for your country and am thinking about having my students do something similar- only in Spanish (I am a Spanish teacher). I look forward to learning more about Georgia. Keep up the good work!
We live on the shores of Lake Ontario in upstate New York in Oswego County. Our town is very small and rural. Traditional foods of the area: pizza, McDonald's, Subway, and Dunkin Donuts. In our area, we love to eat salt potatoes in the summer! Salt potatoes are potatoes boiled in salt and then smothered in butter. Our traditional dances are fun and upbeat. We do a dance called Cotton-Eyed Joe and the Macarena (from Spain). The students love a variety of music- though almost entirely American.
Next weekend our students have a special event called a "Prom". It is very formal. The students dress up, have a formal dinner and then dance the night away.
We start school in September and end near the end of June. We have breaks in November (over Thanksgiving), December (Christmas Week), February (Winter Break), and April (Spring Break).
I will write again some time with more info on life in Mexico, NY
